The Committee

An introduction to the committee would go in this place here.

Jimmey Palahey

Since qualifying in 2004 from Leeds Dental Institute, I have worked in general dental practice around the East Midlands, both privately and for the NHS. I very much enjoy my work and have a particular interest in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, having completed a number of courses in this field. In 2009 I became a Foundation Trainer and have trained and mentored newly qualified dentists which I found very rewarding. I am a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) and of the British Dental Association as well as being the Chair of the Nottingham Local Dental Committee. My hobbies consist of keeping fit and playing Backgammon.

Naresh Patel

Qualified in dentistry in 1998. Completed vocational training within the Nottingham scheme. I began initially working in Nottingham as a Community Dental Officer looking after children and adult with additional needs.
I trained in hospital for a number of years as a Senior House Officer in Maxillofacial surgery in Nottingham, Derby, and Coventry. Undertook Specialist training to become a specialist Orthodontist in 2001 at NUH Nottingham and Sheffield University leading to qualification. I also completed a Masters degree in Orthodontics at Sheffield University. I gained a consultant training post at Portsmouth Hospitals and Bristol Dental Hospital. Following consultant qualification I undertook further training in various units nationally at Manchester Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street, and internationally in Milan and Toronto.
I have worked as a NHS Consultant since 2006. I have been the lead regional Consultant Orthodontist for both the West and the East Midlands cleft lip and palate services. I was appointed as an honorary clinical lecturer at Bristol University and Birmingham University. I have lectured both nationally and internationally. I am a long-standing invited national and international examiner for the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
I am currently the secretary of Nottinghamshire LDC and an active member of Rotherham LDC.

Richard Skeggs

I qualified as a dentist from Manchester in 1984 and worked for 17 years as GDP in Friar Gate in Derby. I also worked as clinical assistant in orthodontics at the Derby Royal Infirmary before leaving to start specialist training in Sheffield and the DRI. I have been a specialist orthodontist since 2006 and now run a specialist practice, Pure Orthodontics, in central Nottingham providing treatment for both NHS and private patients.

I have been involved in local dental politics for many years both on the Derby LDC until 2003 and subsequently with the Notts LDC. I am the LDC treasurer and also secretary of the Nottingham Orthodontic Managed Clinical Network. I am currently representing practitioners’ interests with our local NHS commissioners through the LDC Liaison, Orthodontic e- referral  and the Orthodontic Needs Assessment groups.

Now living in Nottingham, I am married with three grown up children and enjoy cricket in the Summer months and skiing when the weather turns colder.
